Caltex Gas Workers Strike in Cambodia

Cambodian workers at Chevron Corporation’s (NYSE: CVX) Caltex gas stations have gone on strike, closing down 17 of the country’s 26 stations.

The workers are demanding an increase of their minimum wage to $160 per month, plus bonuses, childcare facilities, and vacation time. Workers currently receive between $100 and $130 per month.

The Cambodian labor force, including textile industry workers, sanitation workers, and teachers, have engaged in wage and benefit strikes since last December. Like the Caltex workers, Garment industry workers also targeted $160 as their desired monthly minimum wage.
